Synopsis and Details:
Mason “Mace” Reid lives on the outskirts of Chicago and specializes in human remains detection—that is, he trains dogs to hunt for dead bodies. He calls his pack of cadaver dogs The Finders, and his prize pupil is a golden retriever named Vira.
When Mace Reid and Vira are called in to search Washington Park at three o’clock in the morning, what they find has them running for their very lives. The trail of murder and mayhem Mace and CPD Officer Kippy Gimm have been following leads them to uncover treachery and corruption at the highest level, and their discoveries do not bode well for them . . . nor for the Windy City itself.
The Keepers is an exciting, fast-paced mystery filled with courageous dogs you’ll want to root for.

Review with Rating:
If you love dogs, sleuthing, and plenty of at-the-edge-of-your-seat action, well then, have I got a story to share with you! The Keepers is the second book from the Mace Reid K-9 Mystery series and this story delivers everything you are looking for in a mystery novel. Although the star of the book is Vira, I love the dogs in this story, all of them! They all play a part and they are great for lightening the mood or for adding the emotional element. After reading the last book, The Finders, I had been hoping for a deepening relationship between Mace and Detective Kippy and there may be some hope at the end of that tunnel, just not in this story.
There were multiple murders in The Keepers and more than one case to solve as well. Much to ponder in terms of culpability and motive. Vira and her strange sensing ability was quite helpful in both cases and I still get a chuckle at the idea of her senses being so “next level.” While I did like this book, ultimately, the story was more focused on politics and corruption and those are just not the type of mystery elements that I am drawn to. So, this wasn’t really a story I was in love with but it was well written. Overall, The Keepers is perfect for readers who enjoy political thrillers, mysteries, and very heroic dogs!
