Review: Cracked Casualty by Alexa Whitewolf

Cracked Casualty by Alexa Whitewolf

Synopsis and Details:

I’ve taken my immortality for granted. Now I’ve got to pay the price.

I’m not a princess. The castle I live in is in shambles. My family is anything but loving. And while I come from a royal bloodline of vampiri… You could say we’ve lost our kingdom.

After two years of a mysterious disease ravaging my immortality and health, I’ve had enough. I want to live and enjoy what little time I have left.

Running away from my crazy siblings is probably not my smartest idea… Especially when we’ve been trying to avoid attacks from vampir clans who seek to destroy the last of our bloodline.

Trusting Marcus is even stupider. He may have saved me from a tough spot, but I know nearly nothing about him.

Except that he looks at me like we belong together.

And he has more demons than, well, me.

And his kisses make my toes curl and my unbeating heart want to fall in love again.

Problem is, I’m not the damsel in distress he thinks I am.

And the more he tries to protect me, the more he’s digging his own grave.

Because there’s not just angry vampiri out there hunting me… It seems my family’s upset more supernaturals than we can count. And lonely old me is about to pay the price for all their sins.

Review with Rating:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Cracked Casualty picks up shortly after the events that took place in Immortal Illusion, and Violeta has decided that her life was going to be decided on her terms. This was maybe not the smartest decision she ever made but to someone with an end drawing near, I can respect her choice. What a surprise to her, though, when she realized that her and her siblings were extremely under informed about what was actually taking place in the world of the vampires.

Luckily for Violeta she was discovered by Marcus when she was in dire need of help. Even though he really didn’t want the complications that would come from helping her, a woman in distress and someone he perceived as a human, he had a code of honor that wouldn’t let him ignore her plight. There was also that his curiosity was aroused and she was a puzzle that he wanted to better understand.

The relationship that developed between Violeta and Marcus was complicated and messy with the secrets and the holding back that they did. There is a slow dissemination of details that occurred throughout this story and as I came to know Marcus, I found that he was very likable, even if he was a little thick headed at times. Violeta had her own stubborn moments but her issues were more related to trust and the protection of her family. As dysfunctional as her family may be, they were all incredible loyal to each other.

I did like that the focus in Cracked Casualty was not only on Violeta and Marcus. That the others from the House of Dracul were also included and that more aspects of their personalities were seen. It was lovely to understand the history of the world that these characters inhabit. The events that transpired in this story were eye opening and the twists and turns that took place were surprising and exciting as well. Overall, if you are a fan of vampire paranormal romances that have plenty of twists, steamy times, and an engaging plot, then Cracked Casualty is a perfect story for you!
