Review: Fallen by Alexa Whitewolf

Fallen by Alexa Whitewolf

Synopsis and Details:

Their protégée burned the world alive. Literally. Now, this immortal duo will have to piece it back together…. or forever face the consequences.

Every 500 years, a Flama is born to cleanse the world through the gates of Heaven, or purge it of evil through Hell itself. That choice was made six months ago. Now, humanity wavers on its last hope…

Dante’s angelic superiors have a few choice words to say about his handling of the phoenix shifter in his charge. Rather, his ex-charge, considering Katya has well and truly disappeared. And while he’s happy to be back in the Silver City, his mind won’t stop spinning. Nor can he stop himself from asking questions the archangels have no wish to answer.

Daymun’s back in Hell – and bored out of his mind. Things he used to enjoy have now become tedious, and he finds himself unable to get Katya out of his mind. He needs answers, and if he has to turn the world upside down to find them… Well, he is a demon, after all.

With the last of humanity on the threshold of extinction, this unlikely duo will find themselves dragged into a mess they have no hope of untangling. Despite their opposite natures, will they join forces to ensure there’s a world left standing…and for them to live in?

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Fallen is the first book in the Demoni Sancti series and it is a continuation with the characters we met in the book Blazing Ashes. Dante and Daymun were each assigned to guard the Flama until she made her choice for what would happen to humankind. Once her choice was made, that should have been the end of it. Like it had been for all the others that had come before them but sometimes things just don’t go according to plan.

The loyalty Daymun and Dante felt toward Katya would be their ultimate undoing but sometimes a change in the status quo is a good thing. Both Dante and Daymun tried to acclimate themselves to the lives they once led but little did they know that their time with Katya had changed them, fundamentally. It was their mutual restlessness that led them on their quest for answers, which, initially, was just asking what actually happened to their charge?? While seeking the truth they stumbled upon a plot that was as nefarious as it was devious.

Quite quickly the reality of their current predicament became clear to both Dante and Daymun. There was more going on than they had bargained for and they both had a role to play but they first had to wrap their heads around the enormity of it all. More surprising was that they had become the unlikeliest of friends. This bond would forge them into roles they had never dreamed they would be stepping into but it was not one that they were unwilling to fulfill.

Fallen was an action-packed paranormal fantasy that focused on two characters, the choices they made, and the reality of what devious machinations can bring about. It was both exciting and horrifying to consider all that was taking place in this world the Author created. Despite all the negative that the world was immersed in, it was good to see the struggle that was occurring with these characters and their determination to see the world brought back into balance. A great series starter!
