Synopsis and Details:
Newly-minted secret agent Rhett Bishop would rather face down a horde of angry wolf shifters or her father’s former mob contacts than accept her current assignment: pose undercover as a suburban housewife, complete with a husband, slippers, and pipe.
But after the debacle of her previous mission, Rhett has a lot to prove.
To redeem herself in the eyes of Redclaw Security, and to carry out her mission without distractions, she must table her budding relationship with Peter Knight while the two of them uncover the secrets of Forest Grove.
Armed with her trusty ray gun, her unique little dog, and Knight’s brains, Rhett is confident she can handle whatever the suburbs can throw at her.
Until they lob a curveball.

Review with Rating:
I have been eagerly anticipating the next installment in the Redclaw Origins series and was beyond pumped to receive an advance review copy! There is a ton of fun to be had in Bishop’s Gambit but now I am dying for another story from this series, ha ha ha. Rhett Bishop is back and after the conclusion of her last case, she has been sidelined for far longer than she was happy with. Things had been quite slow for her but her time to shine was on its way in the most unusual of circumstances.
Things between Rhett and Peter Knight had been quite chummy but with their new assignment, there were complications that arose between them. When I was first reading the story, their situation did not seem like a big “deal” but I am reminded that, during the timeframe that this book was set in, social conventions where nothing like what we find acceptable today. I really enjoyed that because it made me stop and consider how things have changed over the years. I also appreciated that this story stayed true to its roots.
I had such a great time reading about Rhett and Peter’s adventure!! Not to mention their furry sidekick who moved to the beat of his own drum. Oh, the chaos that little puppy created! I always enjoy Rhett’s character but, in this book, I adored Peter! He’s such a great character, like a cross between a nerdy scientist and a swoony hero. I liked how his feelings for his partner come out in the subtlest of ways. There were also cool gadgets and I found myself having feelings of endearment for Rhett’s ray gun. Overall, Bishop’s Gambit was a such an engaging read from beginning to end and I can’t wait to see what takes place in the next installment. After the way things ended in this book, I have a feeling it is going to be quite interesting!!
