Review with Rating:

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

The first half of Whiteout was five stars for me! The setting was described in such a way as to show me a startlingly vivid picture. The characters introduced were all unique and believable. I loved the details of what being a cook in this setting was like for Angel. That the prep and cooking process was much more complicated in such a frigid place as Antarctica. I also was entertained by Cooper who was the most restrained character. I couldn’t help but find him adorable even though he acted like a jerk at times. His feeling of want for Angel showed through no matter how controlled he tried to be.

The fight for survival that Angel and Cooper endured was just mind boggling and waaaaay to real for me. Anything less than 50 degrees is brutal for me and to know that these characters were in such horrific conditions was just – – – awful for me to ever consider. I thought that their plight was realistically detailed and scary as hell! I loved that this story had me truly feeling fear for them and that I was distressed because of their suffering. I wanted to end their torment for them! I was all in for the survival of Angel and Cooper.

Where things started to go astray for me wasn’t the romance, because that was intense, but then I will admit that there were parts that were a little cliché. It was the conspiracy theory plot and almost everything associated with it that just became very outlandish to me. I couldn’t take it remotely seriously after a while. Though, instead of just skimming the last quarter of the book as my interest waned, I stayed with it because I wanted to see how things turned out for Angel and Cooper. Overall, I absolutely loved the setting of Whiteout! The action and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the book and the romance element was a nice touch.
