Review: Summoned to Thirteenth Grave by Darynda Jones

Synopsis and Details:

Grim Reaper Charley Davidson is back in the final installment of Darynda Jones’ New York Times bestselling paranormal series!

Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper extraordinaire, is pissed. She’s been kicked off the earthly plain for eternity – which is the appropriate amount of time to make a person starkraving mad. But someone’s looking out for her, and she’s allowed to return after a mere hundred years in exile. Is it too much to hope for that not much has changed? Apparently it is. Bummer.

She’s missed her daughter, she’s missed Reyes, and Beep, but now that she’s back on earth, it’s time to put to rest burning questions that need answers. What happened to her mother? How did she really die? Who killed her? And are cupcakes or coffee the best medicine? It all comes to a head in an epic showdown between good and evil in this final smart and hilarious novel.

Review with Rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Since book one, First Grave on the Right, I have been the hugest fan of the Charley Davidson series and I will say that I had bittersweet feelings about knowing this series was coming to an end. Only fitting that it would come to an end on the thirteenth book, 🙃. The beginning of Summoned to Thirteenth Grave opens with Charley returning to earth after being banished for her choices from the previous book, The Trouble with Twelfth Grave, and that is all I am going to give to you about the storyline. If you have read this series since inception then you should go into this book without spoilers of any kind because this story is epic, surprising, swoony, heartbreaking, and brilliantly fantastic!

I will admit that there were reveals that took place in Summoned to Thirteenth Grave that seemed to have come from out of nowhere. I am serious, there were no hints at all throughout this series and I was like “whhhaaat!” Was I disappointed that there were no hints dropped about these reveals? Hmmm, not really. I think if I would have known then I would have been focused on ferreting out the truth and that would have taken away from my complete focus on what really mattered, Charley, Reyes, and sweet little Beep. When the ending of this story came it was stunning, shocking, and absolutely perfect. I adored the climatic ending that came as such a surprise. Just perfect! I am sad that this series is over but dang if Summoned to Thirteenth Grave wasn’t just the best series ending book!!
