Synopsis and Details:
When investigator Gabriel Chavez had his cover blown by an aggressive reporter, the silver lining was being able to rejoin the dive team. The downside? Dive team captain Anissa Bell–a woman who both fascinates and frustrates him.
Anissa grew up as a missionary kid on the Micronesian island of Yap and always planned to return after college. But she remained stateside, determined to solve the case that haunts her–the murder of her best friend and the disappearance of a three-year-old child.
When Anissa’s fractured past collides with Gabe’s investigation into the tragic shooting death of a teenage boy in Lake Porter, they’ll have to put their complicated history with each other aside in order to uncover the identity of a killer. What they’ll discover is that revenge has no statute of limitations.

Review with Rating:
Three books in and I am still loving the Dive Team Investigations series! Throughout this series, Inspector Gabe Chavez and Dive Team Captain Anissa Bell have had friction between them. Although with each installment their animosity has been waning and their interactions had become more akin to just giving each other a hard time. Which had been becoming quite comical. When I saw that this book, One Final Breath, had them paired I was curious to see how they would work together and I was not disappointed in the least.
Gabe and Anissa might not have been the closest of friends but they have been developing a professional rapport that has made things easier for all the members of the dive team. While attending a get together at their colleague’s house, Gabe and Anissa were called into action when they responded to a shooting in progress. While trying to track down clues as to who was responsible for the shooting, neither of them ever expected that Gabe’s investigation would intersect with a cold case that Anissa has spent a portion of her life trying to solve.
While working closer together than ever it became a challenge for Gabe and Anissa to ignore their mutual attraction. It was clearly simmering between these two but neither of them felt that a relationship was a possibility, with anyone let alone with each other. They both had their scars from their pasts and it was not something they felt they could ever overcome. As the pressure increased and danger was around every corner both Gabe and Anissa would come to realize that if they managed to live through this investigation that maybe their desires were worth overcoming their fears.
One Final Breath was an action-packed rollercoaster ride. Right from the start I was drawn into this plot and with every twist this story I took I was just pulled deeper in. Both Gabe and Anissa’s pasts were compelling and it was wild to see how their pasts were dragged out into the light as they were hunting for clues on multiple cases that were all coming to a head at the same time. The mystery in this story was far reaching and difficult to unravel but when it did it was surprising. Definitely not what I was anticipating but it was a very enjoyable read. Overall, One Final Breath was a thrilling romantic suspense story that was both engaging and memorable. I can’t wait to see what is next in this series.
