Review with Rating:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

The Highland Renegade is the fifth book in the Lords of the Highlands series and it was just an absolutely swoony forbidden love romance. Laird Robert Grant and Janet Cameron’s clans had been feuding for generations and they held no kindness for each other. They may have found each other pleasing to look at but there was nothing more than that between them. From the start of this story it is very clear that both characters did not like each other and that they were very suspicious in any interactions. I love that the story started out like this because it started me hoping for a forbidden love connection and I was not disappointed in the least.

Despite Janet’s obvious disdain for Grant, he was not a bad man and when he found that his enemy had been attacked and abducted by the redcoats he took immediate action. Unfortunately retrieving Janet came with some dire consequences and soon they found themselves stranded, alone, and unable to reach home. This time together was the start of Grant and Janet seeing that maybe their “enemy” was not as terrible as they had been led to believe. Although, it would take much more than mere moments together for a love connection between these two characters and that is what made this story so wonderful!

I truly enjoyed this story because it had its up and downs and nothing was easy for either of these two characters. There was much to overcome not only for their own personal reasons but also because their clans were bitter enemies. It didn’t help matters that Grant also harbored suspicions about the Cameron clan stealing from him.  All the heightened anticipation made for a swoony romance that had me desperately desiring a happy outcome. Despite my love for this story, there were some classically cheesy lines that had me cracking up and rolling my eyes. Overall, The Highland Renegade was a story that captured my heart from the start and was a fabulously swoony romance!
